The opening ceremony of the monument dedicated to Yuri Kondratyuk

On May 25 the opening ceremony of the monument dedicated to Yuri Kondratyuk was held for the occasion of marking the 120th anniversary of his birth. The opening ceremony was attended by numerous scholarly and pedagogic associates of University, students, guests and partners from Germany, Montenegro and Bulgaria. Yuri Kondratyuk went down in the history of science and technology as an author of many original ideas which his followers implemented in rocket and cosmic industry. One of his greatest achievements is the calulation project on landing a man on the Moon which was used by NASA experts in the process of launching astronauts to the Moon in the Apollo program.

The momument was opened by the Rector of the Poltava National Technical University, Volodymyrr Onyshchenko, the President of Minor Academy of Science of Ukraine, Honorary Consul of Monetengro in Ukraine, member of Supervisory authority of the Poltava National Technical University, Stanislav Dovgiy, Honorary Consul of Ukraine in Montenegro, Predrag Milovic, the Hero of Ukraine, the winner of the Shevchenko National Prize, social activist, Ukrainian poet, Dmytro Pavlychko and academician of NAN of Ukraine, the director of the Institute of Hydromechanics NAN of Ukraine, member of the presidency of Minor Academy of Science of Ukraine, Victor Grinchenko.

- Yuri lived among people and amused himself among the stars all his life. This boy from Poltava and Ukranian son, a great world scientist. He is the world famous one because what he had been creating was inherited by everyone, and especially by those countries which at that time were at the highest level of technological progress. The people like Yuri are born to expand the boundaries of time and space through science, art, philosophy. – pointed out Honorary Consul of Ukraine in Montenegro Predrag Milovic.

All present, students, scholarly and pedagogic associates and honorable guests paid their respect to the great theorist of cosmonautics by laying the flowers on his monument. It has been 120 years since the birth of Yuri Kondratyuk and during this time he became a role model for his numerous followers. His achievements and inventions have perpetuated Ukranian science in the world.

Poltava National Technical University is proud to bear the name of this famous scientist which encourages the university staff to preserve the tradition of endless scientific researches, to never give up and to constantly progress.
